Title: GLO historical stream alignments in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, 1851-1910
Publication Date: 19990101
Abstract: This linear layer depicts historical alignments of selected streams in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, including portions of Clark County, Washington along the Columbia River. It is based on land survey data recorded by General Land Office (GLO) surveyors between 1851 and 1910, including township line, section line, and township plat map data.
Purpose: The coverage was created to identify the historical alignments of selected streams that have been significantly altered since the time of survey. Coverage is not comprehensive. It attempts to capture streams that have (1) disappeared in urban areas because of culverting, and are not represented on modern USGS 7.5 minute quad maps, or (2) alignments differing significantly from those shown on modern quad maps, primarily because of deliberate channelization or diversion, or because of natural channel change caused by flooding or siltation.
